About Us
As long ago as the early 1980s, the handful of British and other expats living in the Gandia area at that time were getting together for informal meals and other activities. As time went by and numbers increased, the idea of a formally constituted social club took root and in due course, on 29th May 1989 to be exact, the Gandia Area Social Club came into being under statutes laid down by the Internal Affairs Department of the Valencian government. (A comprehensive Club history can be found at HISTORY of GASC)
The Club holds a Dinner Dance with live music (see Events) and a friendly Quiz every month. Since 2006 our Venue for Dinner Dances has been Restaurante Viva Espana on the N332 Trunk Road, Oliva. Whilst our quizzes are held at Tasca Olivense, Oliva during the winter in their private dining room and El Eden, Oliva for al fresco dining during the summer months.
Away from the Thursday Quiz and Dinner gatherings, regular outside activities include Country Walking and Petanca. The club also organises ad hoc outings to places of local interest.
The Club´s business is conducted according to the Spanish legislation governing registered clubs and societies in the Valencian region. Under these an Annual General Meeting is convened to discuss Club policy and activities and to elect the President and Committee, usually for three-year terms. The Committee meets monthly and is responsible for the day-to-day running of Club affairs.
The official constitution of the Club is supplemented by a number of Committee by-laws which have evolved over the years. See the link: Club Rules.
New members and guests are always welcome.
